"There's Something Really Special Here" Says Alan Browne

6 June 2019

Alan Browne feels there is a special feeling around the club and with everyone pulling in the same direction, he hopes the squad can achieve success in 2019/20.

After a tough end to the 2018/19 campaign, Browne admits it was disappointing but he's looking for North End to have a strong campaign starting in August.

"I think everyone within our squad knows, and hopefully the fans can see it as well, there is something really special here. I think the gaffer signing his new contract just proves that, everybody wants to be at the club and everyone is hungry to be successful with the club.

"Just because we came short this year doesn't mean that we can't go and put in a really strong season next year and that's what we will be looking to do.

On the 2018/19 campaign, Browne continued: "I think looking back at the start of the season, the way we set out and what we were aiming for, overall it's probably been a huge disappointment. I don't think we started well enough and that obviously hindered the rest of our season.

"But we showed some good signs, went on some good runs and we did a lot of work on the training pitch. I think we gave it a good go, probably as best as we could but we just fell short, it was always going to be a massive task to put our season back together. As it happened, it didn't work out like that, we just came up short, we have a really tough week of games and I think that put it to bed really.

Injuries and suspensions certainly played their part during the last campaign, and Browne feels if those issues can be resolved then North End can be a forced to be reckoned with.

"I think that's really important for us next year, if we want to go and do anything, we've got to keep our main players fit and obviously try and keep players free from suspensions.

"I'm sure the gaffer is going to have a word with a few players, I don't think we've been nasty or anything, it's just the way the game is going now. You have to adapt your game a little bit, you are constantly reminded about certain tackles and certain situations and it's just the way the game has changed I think.

"Everyone is probably finding it difficult to do that because of the way they have been brought up and suddenly there are a lot of changes. That's not an excuse because everybody has to deal with it.

"I think if we can keep everyone fit, I'm sure the gaffer is working hard to assess that situation, then there's no reason why we can't go on and progress from last year."
